Occasionally, the military traditions influence the civilians in a big way. One of the popular traditions that have been passed on today is the creation and the collection of challenge coins. But what are these coins? They are custom made coins and come with the insignia or emblem of a certain organization. Also, they have personal messages on them. Compared to the currency coins, the challenge coins are much bigger and it is a great privilege to be able to receive one of these coins. Typically, the challenge coins represent brotherhood and solidarity. However, since this military tradition has been passed on to the civilian, they are now available in different organizations and groups of people. Churches, the different firms, social groups, circle of friends and different others have such coins to symbolize the bond that they share. The challenge coins are usually given to represent that people belong to a strong community of people or certain group. The name “challenge coin” is from the tradition that such coins used to carry. When these coins were offered to military personnel and represented that they belong to a unit, they were utilized as a test. The rules aren’t at all times the same on each group, however, the challenge is. The person who has a challenge coin with them should show it and when there is a challenge, anyone should answer the challenge through the use of the coin. When one is not able to do so, he will have to buy something such as drinks for the challenge and for those who have the challenge coins. But, if all in the group were able to show their coins, then the challenger will be the one to purchase drinks for everyone. |
